Obituary

Mr. Alan Wayne Blackketter, 60, of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at his home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Gideons International.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Bro. Jacob Harris and Ron Franks officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Roads Cemetery in Benton County, Tennessee, at a later date.

The family will receive friends in the Cherrywood of Chase Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Alan was born April 24, 1961 in Shamrock, Wheeler County, Texas, to the late Koert Lewis and Arlene Jean (Van Hofwegen) Blackketter. He attended elementary school at Trezevant and McLemoresville and graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1979. He continued his education at Murray State University, graduating in 1983.

After serving as a pilot in the United States Navy for more than 27 years, Alan retired as Commander in February 2012. During his career, he was stationed in San Diego, California; Pensacola, Florida; Norfolk, Virginia; Washington, DC; Patuxent River, Maryland; Nairobi, Kenya; and Millington, Tennessee.  CDR Blackketter logged more than 3700 flight hours in helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. He was also a member of Huntingdon First Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon.

Those who survive him and greatly miss him are his wife, Denise Blackketter, one daughter Emily Freeman (Daniel) of Bolivar; two sons, Adam Blackketter (Jacqui)of McLemoresville, and Thomas Blackketter , of Knoxville; three sisters, Susan Partridge (Mike), Gail Eubanks (Harold) and his twin, Ann Butler (Ricky) all of Huntingdon, one brother, Van Blackketter (Louanne) of McLemoresville; seven grandchildren, Ruthie, Providence, Jemima, Valor, Sinai, Abigail, and Gideon; a stepmother, Katie Blackketter of Shawnee, Oklahoma. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, JoNell Blackketter and one granddaughter, Mercy Freeman.
