Obituary

Albert Lloyd Hilliard, 90, of Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon, TN.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Backpack Ministry at Eastview Baptist Church.

A celebration of his life and 91st birthday will be held on Friday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Eastview Baptist Church in Huntingdon. Interment will follow in Davis Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Hunter Jones will officiate the service.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 9 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Chase Funeral Home and at Eastview Baptist Church from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

The pallbearers are Allen Kee, Allen Espey, Brad Douglas, Kennedy White, Brent Dillahunty, Jacob Malone and Greg Milner.
Al was born March 10, 1926 in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee. He was the son of Albert Alexander and Nancy Lera McCord Hilliard. He was the grandson on Richard Hannibal and Queen Victoria Adams Hilliard and William Thomas and Nannie Pearl Rogers McCord. He was a 1944 graduate of Clarksburg High School and attended West Tennessee Business College and Union University.
Al served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War earning the rank of Seaman 1st Class. He married Virginia Orman on August 20, 1949 at North Jackson Baptist Church in Jackson where they had met as Union students. Al and Jen lived in Memphis where they raised their family until moving to the Hilliard farm in Huntingdon in 1976.
At age 90, Al continued to work as a part-time bookkeeper at Espey Oil Company in Huntingdon. He also served as an active deacon at Eastview Baptist Church. He had served the past 34 years as the treasurer of the Carroll-Benton Baptist Association. He loved his work and church families very much. His favorite pastime was studying God's Word and his teaching specialty was the Book of Revelation and Biblical prophecy. Because of his love of Scripture, he was especially proud to learn that his 11th great-grandfather Christopher Barker was the printer of the 1599 Geneva Bible used by the Pilgrims.
Al was a member of Ruritan and the American Legion. He was a blood donor until he was told he had reached the maximum age to donate. In death, he continued to help others as an organ donor.
Al and his twin brother Ad were honored at a 90th birthday party last March in Huntingdon. They were also honored by the State of Tennessee House of Representatives Joint Resolution #754 in recognition of their birthday.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and wife Virginia. He is survived by children Cathy (Mike) Hoover of Jackson, TN, Allison Hilliard of Huntingdon, and Alex (Linda) Hilliard of Huntingdon; his grandchildren Shannon (Clay) Farris of Olive Branch, MS, Bambi Hoover (Chad) Canada and April Hoover of Jackson, TN, Sarah (Jason) Gillis of Elizabeth City, NC, Grace Hilliard-Koshinsky of Boston, MA, Bethany Koshinsky of Washington, DC and Elijah Hilliard of Huntingdon; great-grandchildren Ethan Hoover, Riley Hoover and Catelynn Maness all of Jackson, TN, Aidan and Chase Farris of Olive Branch, MS, and Rachel and Mahayla Gillis of Elizabeth City, NC; twin brother Ad Hilliard of Jackson, TN; uncle Thomas McCord of Huntingdon; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
