Obituary

Mr. Bruce Hurt, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at Camden General Hospital

A memorial visitation will be held in the Cherrywood Room of Chase Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM

Mr. Hurt was born April 27, 1951, in Milan, Tennessee, to the late Virgil and Audrey (Nance) Hurt. Bruce started his career out in banking, then tried his hand at farming for several years. After that, he spent much of his life behind the wheel as a truck driver, a career that suited his independent spirit and gave him plenty of stories to tell along the way. But more than anything, he will be remembered for the person he was. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for making people laugh, and he loved sharing stories—whether they were from the road, from years gone by, or simply a good tale that he knew would make someone smile. He never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel welcome and at ease. To those who knew and loved him, he was a one-of-a-kind presence whose humor, stories, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Kessa Riggs, a grandson, Stone Riggs, a granddaughter, Karter Riggs, all of Smyrna,  his longtime girlfriend, Elaine Robinson, a sister, Brenda Fox (Bruce) of North Augusta, South Carolina, two brothers, Bob Hurt (Sue) of Panama and Kendell Hurt (Judy) of Bruceton, and many nieces and nephews.
