Charles Robert Mead was born in White Plains, NY on April 10, 1938,
the second child of Charles and Lily Mead, and died in Huntingdon,
Tennessee on October 4, 2016. He joined the U.S. Army after attending
Peeksill High School in Putnam County, NY and attendance at Ryder
College in New Jersey, and served at the Sandia base in Albuquerque,
New Mexico from August 1960 to August 1962 as a military policeman. He was decorated as a Marksman (Carbine) and Sharpshooter (Pistol).

Charles never married and lived in New York, California, Arizona,
Virgina and Florida before moving to Huntingdon, Tennessee in June
2005. He worked in warehousing, and was a buyer for the Arlington
Hospital. He was working at that hospital, which is quite close to
the Pentagon, on September 11, 2001. He participated in the
preparation for the treatment of victims from the Pentagon plane
crash, but Arlington Hospital did not end up being needed for triage
and treatment.

Charles enjoyed outdoor recreation, from canoeing and hiking as a
younger man, to bicycling in his middle and older years. He enjoyed
classical music, pets, travel and politics. Charles was a volunteer
for tax preparation assistance for a number of years in Carroll
County. He was preceded in death by his sister Emily (Mead)
McKechnie, and is survived by his niece Deborah (McKechnie) O'Bannon
of Creighton, Missouri, and his nephew Ian McKechnie of Sherman,
