Obituary

Mr. Donald Lenior Orders, 77, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis after a long illness.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery. Bro. Bryan Hayes and Bro. John D. Small officiated the service.

Pallbearers who served were Connor Gray, Ed Gaeto, Nicky Gaeto, Alex Gaeto, David McVoy, and John Sanders. Honorary Pallbearers were Robert Baker, Billy McElwain, Gary Green, Bob Orders, Anthony Williams, Ken Willoughy, Jerry Worrell, Guy Williams, Chris Williams, Coy Haraway, and Frank Thomas.

Mr. Orders was born April 12, 1939 in Morganton, North Carolina to the late Charlie and Ruth (White) Orders. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Oneida Orders and a brother, Francis Orders. He was a Fireman with the Memphis Fire Department for 29 years. Don also owned a janitorial supply business named D & B Enterprises and Yuma Country Store at Yuma, Tennessee. Don was a member of the Yuma Missionary Baptist Church and he enjoyed outdoor activities. Don cooked many hundreds of hamburgers in Booth No. 1 for the Cordova Festival, a 25 plus year fund raising event benefitting the Cordova Community Center, where Don was a long time Board Member. The Center is the former Cordova School, started in 1913, where Oneida was a beloved language arts teacher and a room in the Center is named the Orders Room in her honor, The friends of the Cordova Community Center really enjoyed working with Don for he was "quite a character" and made the Festival a lot of fun.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Hester Orders; two daughters, Angela Orders Gaeto (Ed) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Donita Orders of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Carolyn Bridgman (husband Howard) of Hickory, North Carolina; two brothers, Bob Orders (wife JoAnn) of Hildebran, North Carolina and Larry Orders (wife Linda) of Connelly Springs, North Carolina. He also leaves four grandchildren, Conner Gray, Isabelle Schubert, Nicky Gaeto, and Alex Gaeto.
