Mr. Edwin Whitney "E.W." Smith, Jr. 78, of Cedar Grove, Tennessee passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hickory Flat Cemetery. Bro. Greg Stanford will officiate the service.

The family will receive friends in the Cherrywood room of Chase Funeral Home on Saturday after 5:00 PM and on Sunday from 9:00 AM until time of service.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the American Alzheimer Foundation or the Hickory Flat Church.

Mr. Smith was born November 29, 1933 in Carroll County, Tennessee to the late Edwin Whitney Smith Sr. and Hattie Walls Smith. He was a retired mill operator for Ormet Company, a member of the Hickory Flat United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. Besides his parents her was preceded in death by one sister; Mattie Mc Alexander and one brother; Julian Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ruth Smith, two daughters; Paula Rogers (Bryan), Teresa Jackson (Keith), one son; Tim Smith (Sheila) all of Cedar Grove and one sister; Patsy Floyd of Holly Springs, Mississippi. He also leaves six grandchildren; Jeremy Jackson, David Jackson, Michael Rogers, Noah Rogers, Ashley Ingram and Kelly Tullier and two great grand children.
