Elinna Ruth (Hardy) Carroll, 99, entered her heavenly home on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Sellers officiating.  Interment will follow in Palmer Shelter Cemetery.

Pallbearers who will serve are Michael Walker, Phillip Walker, Brent Champion, Chad Arnold, Johnathan Carroll, and Barry Sutton.

The family will receive friends in the Cherrywood Room of Chase Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until time of service.

Mrs. Carroll was born May 29, 1923 in Carroll County, Tennessee, to the late James Gardner and Vida Ann (Latham) Hardy.    She was known as "Ma" to all her grandchildren and their children.  She loved to quilt and sew.  She wanted all of her children to have a hand-made quilt.  All of Ruth's family enjoyed hearing memories of her childhood.  She was well loved and respected by her children, grandchildren and all of her family.  Ruth was also a two-time cancer survivor.  Her first diagnosis was when she was 86 years old and again at the age of 90.  Other than her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Avery Carroll, two sons, Gary Carroll, Steve Carroll, grandchildren, Kimberly Gurley, Kevin Gurley, David Carroll, her sister, Evelyn Hardy Carroll, two brothers, Ralph Hardy, and Lloyd Hardy.

She is survived by one son, Harold Carroll of Jackson, four daughters, Betty Corley (Mark) of Texarkana, Texas, Barbara Batteese of McKenzie, Judy Latta (JR) Lisa Carroll (Tom O'Sullivan), both of Jackson, three brothers, Billy Hardy of Norfolk, Virginia, John Hardy of Cedar Grove, Dwight Hardy of Eva, and one sister, Mary Ann Melton of Austin, Texas.  She also leaves thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.  A special thanks to Sherrie Hinson, her care giver and to the Maplewood Nursing Home.
