Mrs. Christine Pierce Smothers Bates, 90, of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the Huntingdon health and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 1:00PM in the Chapel of Chase Funeral home. Interment will follow in the Prospect Cemetery. Bro. Len O'Bryant will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends in the Cherrywood Room of Chase Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00PM until 8:00PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
Pallbearers who will serve are Jay Bond, Barry Jordan, Alan Pierce, Barry Pierce, John Smothers, Tommy Cooper, Jimmy Barrett, Ted Kelly and Gary Pierce.
Mrs. Bates was born January 9, 1922 to the late Ivy Richard Pierce and Mary Myrtle (Higdon) Pierce. She retired from Henry I. Siegel Company with over 40 years of employment. After retirement she kept children in her home and she was a member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Alden Smothers and her second husband, Hugh Bates, one sister, Lucille Cooper and four brothers, Glen, Lois, Dewey, and Harold Pierce.
She is survived by one son; Ronnie Smothers (Kay) of Waverly, TN. She also leaves three grandchildren, Gina Jordan (Barry) of Huntingdon, John Smothers (Anna) of Germantown, Cindy Hall (Tim) of Summerfield, North Carolina; four great grandchildren, Jill Barrett (Jimmy), Keely Jordan, Hannah Hall, and Asher Smothers and one great-great grandchild.
