Obituary

Mrs. Ella Imogene Johnson Tucker, 95, of Huntingdon died January 17, 2016, at Harmony Hill Assisted Living in Huntingdon. She was born on August 12, 1920, in Huntingdon to the late Alec (Kit) and Josie Ella Brown Johnson, and was a sister to the late Mrs. Ellie Ellis, and three brothers, the late Hubert, Ed and Joe Johnson.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Huntingdon. Interment will follow at Davis Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Fred Ward and Bro. Henry Simpson will officiate the service.

The family will receive friends in the Cherrywood Room of Chase Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Mrs. Tucker was a graduate of Clarksburg High School and was married to the late L.B. Tucker from Hazel, KY, in 1940. They first lived in Kentucky, but moved to Detroit, MI, when WWII started where she worked on the wings of B-29 airplanes. When Mr. Tucker was drafted, she followed him to live where he was stationed in Oklahoma and Texas. Following the War, they settled in Huntingdon where they lived the rest of their lives. She worked with her husband in the business he founded, owned and operated, Huntingdon Home Improvement Company. Mrs. Tucker was the primary care-giver for her husband who was an invalid the last ten years of his life until his death in 1997. Following that time, she enjoyed traveling with various groups, and with her daughter including trips to Hawaii and Alaska.

She was an assistant leader to Mrs. Arthur Haag of a local Girl Scout troop from 1956-1958. Mrs. Tucker was a member of the Huntingdon Order of the Eastern Star since 1961, serving as Worthy Matron twice, in 1966-67 and again in 1982-83, and a past member of the West Tennessee Gavel Club in Jackson. She was a member of the Huntingdon Woman's Club and the First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Tucker is survived by her daughter, Pat Tucker of Atlanta, GA, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Faith (Dewey) Tucker of Alpharetta, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Bruce (Boue) Johnson, Jr., Bart Smith, Danny Brawner, Justin Johnson, Michael Sharp, and Jack Shalley. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Johnson, Sr., Jim Smith, Robert Joe Johnson, and Bill Tucker.
