Obituary

Sister Janice Yvette Maywether was born to Castella V. Cooper on March 16, 1960 in Tampa, Florida, and passed away Monday , January 6, 2025 in her home.
She accepted Christ in her life at an early age and was baptized into the Christian faith at Mt. Calvary Seventh-day Adventist Church in Tampa. Desirous of a Christian education she attended grades 6-8 at Mt. Calvary Junior Academy, and later graduated from Thomas R. Robinson High School class of 1977.
She was a founding member of the Singing Evangeleers of Mt. Calvary. Her enjoyment for sharing the Savior's love in song also urged Cooper family visits to shut-ins, nursing homes, hospitals, and services at other churches. Master Save Me, by Wanda Lott, is remembered by her children as her prized treasure trove of lyrical blessings.
Janice loved life and people. To know her was to love her. Prior to her illness she made yearly pilgrimages to Florida, Texas, Louisiana and Illinois to visit close family and friends.
Her most feted employment was as a department head secretary for Southwest Region Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, through which she also met and later married Alvin Maywether of Keene, Texas. Eventually Janice and Alvin felt called to a labor of love and moved to Huntingdon, TN where they worked 14 years in various capacities for the faith-based M.E.E.T. Ministry, empowering men and women to live healthier lives, and to spread the good news of the gospel.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Jake (Tim Cooper) Powell III of Tampa, and Stephanie Stevens of East St. Louis, IL; a brother Ronald Cooper and sister Paulette Cooper.
She also leaves three grandchildren: Jashareon Wells, Prince Powell, and Stephan Stevens; four great-grandchildren: Bartareon Wells, Sha'juan Wells, Bryan Haywood, jr
and Brayon Haywood, and a host of other relatives and devoted friends.
Born fourth to a family of five children, Janice Yvette Cooper Maywether was preceded in death by her loving mother, Castella Vernette Saunders Cooper; sister, Andrea Patricia Cooper Reddick, and brother, Robert Lee Cooper, Jr.
Janice leaves behind a loving and devoted husband of 33 years and a l loving in-law family. Father-in-law, James A Maywether, Mother-in-law, Sarah Maywether, Sister-in-law, Winifred Maywether, four Brother-in-laws, James D. Patterson, Glenn W. Maywether, Darryl Maywether, Malcom Maywether, and a host of nieces, and other relatives and friends of the family.
We mourn the passing of our dear sister and look forward to the time that legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson called the "Great Gettin' Up Morning." Until that day, "fare thee well, fare thee well."
