Mrs. Rita Jean Akin 80, of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Harmony Hill Assisted Living in Huntingdon
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Huntingdon Church of Christ Relay for Life Team.
Funeral services will conducted on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Union Academy Cemetery. Elder Jerry Morris will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends in Cherry Wood Room of Chase Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
Pallbearers who served were Marshall Carter, James Mitchell, Carl Byars, Walter Butler, Trevor Akin, and Mike Hall. Honorary pallbearers were Patsy Smith, Billy Smith, Carolyn Cozart and Greg Cozart.
Mrs. Akin was born July 28, 1932 in Carroll County, Tennessee to the late Carl Byars and Gladys (Parsons) Byars. She was retired from the Publix Shirt Corporation and a member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by her first husband; James "Scrappie" Oliver Hall, second husband; Donald R. Akin and one brother; Tommy Byars.
She is survived by one son; Richard Akin (wife Paula), one sister; Carline Carter (husband John) both of Huntingdon. She also leaves one grandson; Trevor Akin, nieces; Alacia Mitchell (husband James) of Huntingdon, Tanya Byars, nephews; Marshall Carter (wife Brenda) of Huntingdon, Chris Carter (wife Vern) of North Carolina, Neil Byars, Paul Byars and Nicky Byars and special friend; Patsy Smith.
