Mr. Jerry Lee Johnson Sr., 99 of Cedar Grove, Tennessee passed away Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM with Bro. Drew Brewer officiating. Burial with funeral honors will follow at Hickory Flat Cemetery.
The family will receiver friends in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until time of service.
Mr. Johnson was born February 15, 1927 in Pinson, Tennessee to the late Leonard and Hazel (Holder) Johnson. He joined the Navy nine days before he turned eighteen years old, he was discharged in September of 1946, and called back into service in October of 1951, serving until his discharge in September of 1952. He served in WWII and during the Korean conflict until 1949. He was the last surviving WWII veteran in Carroll County. He was a member of Hickory Flat Methodist Church and served as the cemetery board president for many years. He worked for the Jackson Police Department for 28 years retiring in 1983 at the rank of Captain. He moved back to Cedar Grove in 1985 and drove a school bus for many years. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his child, June Johnson, his second wife of 21 years, Francis Johnson a brother, Gaylon Johnson and a sister Joeann Smith and her husband Bill.
He is survived by his son, Jerry Lee Johnson Jr. of Cedar Grove, two grandchildren, Lacy Hehe (Landon) and Ashley Thomas, and four great grandchildren, and his domino playing buddy, Bubba Duke.
