Judge William Edward Hammett, 95 of the Shiloh Community, Tennessee, passed away Friday, February 14, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 17, 2020, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Bro. Scott Carter will officiate the service. Interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers who will serve are Daniel Gurley, Jayden Gurley, Mark Whitfield, Tyler Lee Hammett, Cody Scott, and Shawn Hampton.
The family will receive friends in the Cherrywood Room of Chase Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Judge Hammett was born January 11, 1925 in Yuma, Tennessee, to the late John Hammett and Vida (Birdwell) Hammett. He was a retired General Sessions Judge for Dyer County, retired Tennessee Highway Patrol, member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, disabled Army veteran of the Philippines war, Vice President of the Retired Troopers Association and a member of the Al Chymia Shriners. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Juanita Frances (Webb) Hammettt, two sisters, Lucille Webb, Vonnell Pritchard, four brothers, Emmett Hammett, John Julian Hammett, Carmack Hammett, and Justin Hammett.
He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Gurley (Danny), one son, Johnny E. Hammett both of Westport, one sister-in-law, Earlene Hammett of Huntingdon, and his caregiver, Barbara Walker. He also leaves three grandchildren, Tyler Lee Hammett (Denise), Jessica Whitfield (Mark), Daniel Gurley (Melissa), six great grandchildren, John Tyler Hammett (Jennifer), and Lindey Brooke Scott (Cody), Dillon Whitfield, Macey Whitfield, Jayden Gurley, Lillian Yarbrough, and five great great grandchildren.
