Martha Jean Atkins was born in Minter, City, Mississippi on July 17, 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Melvin Atkins, a son, Charles Atkins, her parents, Bill and Bessie Murphree, and three brothers.

She is survived by a son, Timothy Atkins, of Huntingdon, two grandchildren, Andrew (Marlee) Atkins of Memphis, and Leah Atkins of Huntingdon, and one great-grandchild, Charley Atkins of Memphis.
