Obituary

Nellie Jo Menzies was born May 3,1939, in Lexington, Tennessee to the late Clyde Williams and Excel (Johnson) Williams.  She departed this life on December 11, 2025, at Briarwood Manor.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Timberlake Grove Baptist Church in Lexington. Burial will follow in Kizer Cemetery in Lexington.

The family will receive friends at Timberlake Grove Baptist Church from 11:00 AM until time of service.

Nellie accepted Christ at an early age and graduated from Montgomery High School in Henderson County where she excelled in academics and basketball. She was married to the late George Lloyd Menzies and from this union five children were born.  She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She tirelessly took care of family members in failing health and watched over her grandkids. When her own health was failing and her memories were slipping away from her, she steadily maintained grace, a smile, and good cheer.

Nellie was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Carver, a daughter Tammy Newberry, son Michael Andrew Menzies, and great grandson Denim Hart.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory two daughters Barbara Menzies of Jackson, Tennessee and Marisa Hart of Lexington; son George L. Menzies, Jr of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; sister Clarene Mayo; grandchildren Lori Newberry, George Menzies III, Olivia Menzies, Darren Hart, and Amanda Holloway; great grandson Camron Lewis; and great granddaughter Lily Menzies.  She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
