Obituary

Mrs. Peggy Ann Umstead DePriest, 85, of Huntingdon, Tennessee left this world to be with her savior Thursday, December 16, 2021. She passed away at home with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home with Sis. Billie Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery in Atwood.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM (with an Eastern Star service beginning at 7:30 PM) in the Cherrywood Room of Chase Funeral Home and Monday in the Chapel from 9:00 AM until time of the service.

Peggy was born June 16, 1936 in Yuma, Tennessee. She was the eldest child born to the late Lee Etta (Greener) Umstead and Billie Umstead. Going to night school she pursued a degree in office clerical work and retired as a secretary in the piece goods office of H.I.S. in Bruceton. She loved her family and friends fiercely, not just immediate family either. Her nieces, nephews and cousins were all very dear to her and she would have done anything for any of them. She married James Edward DePriest on December 23, 1953. They were blessed to be together for a little over 58 years before he passed. They had one child Melissa (DePriest) Carter.

Many family members greeted her as she entered Heaven on Thursday morning. Her parents Billie and Lee Etta Umstead, brother, Billy Joe Umstead, husband, Edward Depriest and her grandson, Eric Carter.

We that are left to carry on are her sisters Mary Pinson of Atwood, Sharon Johnson (Wayne), a special niece Laura "Cricket" Brown (Jerry)and Briley, a special nephew, Michael Hays (Misty) all of Huntingdon. Her only child Melissa Carter (Jimmy) of McKenzie and her only granddaughter Jessica Carter of Rock Hill, South Carolina. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jessica, you will always be the apple of her eye.
