He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, the late Jo Ella Pickett Churchwell; four sisters Maude Moore, Iva Kirk, Nelle May, Bessie Hill, and two other siblings who died in infancy.
Known as "Bob" to some and "Mr. Robert" to many others, he was lovingly known as "Papa" to his family. He also served his community and county in the capacity of magistrate for twelve years. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
He is survived by one son, Bobby Joe Churchwell (wife Frances); four grandchildren, Lisa Hilliard ( husband Gerry), Robbie Carlton ( husband Tim), Robert Churchwell (fiancé April) and James Churchwell ( wife Debbie), all of Huntingdon; six great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren and five step great great grandchildren.
