Mr. Sam Curtis Barger 96, of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will conducted on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Carroll Memorial Gardens. Dr. Jerry Jeffords and Dr. Bill Bailey will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends in the Cherrywood room of Chase Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
Pallbearers who will serve are Dr. Jerry Atkins, Mike Thomas, Billy Tines, Allen Espey, Joe Parker and William Lee Smothers. Honorary Pallbearers are the Lone Oak Hunting Club, Charles Hodges, Randy Clement, Johnny Clement, Joe Smothers, Jacob Smothers, Mike Cary, Mark Cary and Tommy Portis.
Mr. Barger was born September 26, 1917 in Carroll County, Tennessee to the late Curtis & Ota Bell (Williams) Barger. He was the founder of Barger Construction Company and a member of the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church. Mr. Barger served as the Chairman of the Election Commission in Carroll County, and he was a member of the Huntingdon Masonic Lodge#106. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jamie Newsome Barger, whom he married on December 24,1938,one daughter, Judy Reeder and two brothers, Dwayne Barger and William A. "Billy" Barger.
He is survived by one son, Williams C. "Buster" Barger (wife Clay) of Huntingdon. He also leaves six grandchildren, John Reeder (wife Rebecca), Jennifer Hawthorne, Amy Robison (husband Terry), Amanda Barbaree (husband Blair), Ashley Cochran (husband Jonathan) and Allison Bailey (husband Edwin), ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
