Obituary

Mr. William Howard Carter, 81 of Cedar Grove, Tennessee passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Henderson County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Bible Hill Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in church cemetery. Pastor Anthony Gordon will officiate the service.

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home on Sunday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at the Bible Hill Missionary Baptist Church on Monday from 11:00 AM until time of services.

Pallbearers who will serve are Tommy McCollough, Alfred Douglas, Jessie Hart, James Roy Hart, Keith Floyd and Danny McClerkin. Honorary Pallbearers are Arthur Pritchard, Levester Pritchard, Sylvester Pritchard, Jeff Wilson, Charles Williams, William Carter Jr., and Acie Carter. Flowerbearers are Doris Ann Hart, Dessie Moody, Betty Pearson, Della Hollingsworth, Glenda Carter, Ira Rogers and Gloria Carver.

Mr. Carter was born May 3, 1932 in Henderson County, Tennessee to the late Dewey Carter and Essie Phillips Carter. He retired after 33 years from the Milan Army Ammunition Plant as a line truck driver and was a farmer for many years. He was a devoted member of the Bible Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and a deacon of the church. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, James Carter, C. H. Carter, R. D. Carter, and two sisters, Jessie Hart and Lil Virginia.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Virginia Lee (Edwards) Carter, one son, William Howard Carter Jr. (wife Bonnie) of Cedar Grove; three daughters, Consier Willa Carter of Nashville, Cristella Brown and Regena Hampton both of Wildersville. Seven grandchildren, Dantrail Brown (wife Summer), LaPortia Carter, Aerial Carter, Dallas Hampton, Cornelius Frierson, Dimitric Brown, Brent Carter, six great grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia McGill of Wildersville, Wanda Floyd of Milan, and Kathleen Sligh of Philadelphia; one sister-in-law, Essie Lee Carter, and a host of nieces and nephews.
